This past weekend was a great time to take a little hike along the Pacific Crest Trail out in the north eastern part of San Diego County near Warner Springs. There along the Pacific Crest Trail is an uncanny grouping of boulders that looks like a eagle with its wings outstretched. If you get they chance this a fun hike to take with the family.

This past weekend was a great time to head out to the Santa Ysabel Eastern Preserve. The weather had cooled down somewhat and there was a really nice breeze flowing in from the west. Its a little drive to get out to and if you are going to do a point to point hike it will take a little coordination with the cars but its well worth it.

This past weekend I took my hiking group on another excursion into the San Jacinto State Park. This time taking the Palm Springs Tram up to 8500 feet and hiking for 12 miles up to San Jacinto Peak at 10,834 feet and then back down to the top of the tram again. It was a great weekend for the hike, the weather was perfect, and the view was spectacular.

Another great trail that we tackled this past week in Idyllwild was the Deer Springs Trail to Suicide Rock Hike. It wasn’t a hard trail, but any trail become harder when its hot and humid out. We found this 6.6 mile trail harder the first day then the Devils Slide To Tahquitz Trail we did the next day, perhaps because we started the 2nd hike much earlier in the day instead of high noon and we broke our self’s in the day before on this trail. These two trails really compliment each other, giving your a chance to see then views from either side of the valley.

A great hike to take in the Idyllwild / San Jacinto Area. Its a nice 2 hour drive from San Diego, I find I prefer to take the back way through the high desert ( taking the 79 off of the 15) and through Garner Valley rather then driving through the city of Hemet, but maybe that just me. Everyone in my group was in agreement that this hike felt like a little piece of the Sierras, but without the long drive up the state.  Defiantly worth checking out. If you want a good place to go for lunch afterwords I would suggest Cafe Aroma’s, a already popular place here in Idyllwild, if you have a big party you may want to call ahead a reserve a table.

A great day for a hike up in Mt Laguna. It was pretty overcast by the coast but by the time we drove past El Cajon Mountain along the 8 we started to see sunshine. I was afraid it would be to hot which is why we started this trail going counterclockwise so that we could hike the section up Garnet Peak while we where fresh and the temperature was cooler, but even when it got hotter as the day progressed there was a constant cool breeze on most of the trail. If you haven’t been the views down to the desert are worth it.
